Vent lines for built-in fuel tanks are necessary to prevent tank vacuum and pressure build-up when temperatures rise. However, rapid fuel flow when refueling and tank sloshing while underway can force fuel up the vent line. This surging fuel can cause accidental overboard spills.
The P-Trap Fuel Surge Protector eliminates the need to install both a fuel tank hull vent and a surge protector. This one product combines both functions -- helping to avoid fuel spills, providing for tant venting, and inhibiting water intrusion into the fuel tank.
An internal "surge ball" rises to block the main vent line whenever the line fills with fuel. When re-fueling, any potential spillage is therefore limited to a very tiny secondary vent hole, but by this time the dockside automatic fuel nozzle will have shut off.
